About This Project
SkyCandy Studios was proud to collaborate with FIFA and the City of Toronto to produce a cinematic ambassador film for the FIFA World Cup 2026™, featuring the iconic voice and presence of Toronto’s own Will Arnett. As part of FIFA’s official “One Year to Go” campaign, the video was one of sixteen unique films released across host cities, each designed to introduce local culture, personality, and passion to the world. For Toronto, SkyCandy crafted a narrative that’s equal parts heartfelt and humorous; anchored by Arnett’s unmistakable charisma and love for his hometown. This project shows our Toronto drone cinematography team at work across the city for the World Cup host campaign.
Project Highlights
- Shoot: FIFA ‘One Year to Go’ ambassador film featuring Will Arnett
- Services: Sports drone cinematography plus ground coverage
- Locations: CN Tower, neighborhood courts, downtown streets, lakeside views
- Style: Fast FPV, clean orbitals, sunrise and blue hour coverage
- Host context: Toronto will stage six World Cup matches starting June 12, 2026
Filmed over four tightly coordinated days, the production took viewers on a visual tour through Toronto’s most iconic locations; from the CN Tower to neighborhood basketball courts, bustling downtown streets, and lakeside views. SkyCandy’s team employed a blend of ground-level cinematography, aerial drone work, and stylized motion graphics to capture the city’s scale, energy, and soul. The visuals were paired with a warm, witty voiceover by Arnett, offering personal anecdotes and playful commentary that framed Toronto not just as a destination, but as a host with heart.
The result is a video that feels as cinematic as it is genuine. More than a marketing piece, it’s a bold invitation to the world: come experience Toronto’s diversity, vibrancy, and unwavering enthusiasm for the beautiful game. The film also sets the stage for a historic moment; Toronto will host six FIFA World Cup matches in 2026, including Canada’s opening match on June 12 at BMO Field. With this project, SkyCandy not only captured a city on the brink of something big—they helped define how the world will see it.
Aerial and Ground Production
We combined FPV and cinema drones with steady ground shots to show speed, scale, and texture. We planned flight paths for bridges, waterfronts, and skyline views, then balanced them with street scenes in real neighborhoods.
Key moves included fast FPV passes for energy, slow orbitals for scale, and light matched to each time of day. The film feels big and cinematic while still personal to Toronto.
Locations and Logistics
Shooting across Toronto needs smart planning. Weather shifts, microclimates, traffic, and sightlines all matter. We scouted for sunrise skyline reveals, midday city texture, and blue hour glow.
On the ground, we kept a small footprint so normal activity could continue. In the air, we used safe launch and landing spots and kept clear buffers around people and property.
Crew, Gear and Safety
Our pilots hold Transport Canada Advanced certification. We use written checklists, site risk reviews, and visual observers. We coordinate flight authorizations through NAV CANADA when required.
Our setups include FPV for action, sub 250 or heavy lift platforms as needed, and gimbals for ground shots. Every choice balances image quality with safety and respect for the community.
